Lake Garda and its markets

If you love to shop, Lake Garda offers countless opportunities, and open-air markets are a very popular option.

When traveling street vendors, the oldest form of commerce, decided to group together, open-air markets were born. The open-air markets of Lake Garda are an important tourist attraction and one of the most popular and oldest traditions on the lake.

The weekly market on Lake Garda is a bustling, lively place where the locals meet amid the vendor booths. Surrounded by their historical monuments, they repeat age-old customs: speaking in dialect, haggling over prices, chitchatting and discussing the latest events.

Tourists and locals browse the colorful open-air markets on Lake Garda which are full of interesting objects and special offers. With their reasonable prices, a large variety of food products (including extra-virgin olive oil, wine, and cheese), clothing, shoes, underwear, linens for bed and bath, handbags and wallets, small appliances, toys, household goods and decorator objects, costume jewelry, and tools, these markets are a shopper’s dream.

Browsing the booths at the open-air markets is one of the pleasures of a vacation on Lake Garda. It’s fun to go shopping because there are so many products on display, so it’s almost impossible to go home without buying something new.

The open-air markets on Lake Garda, which are usually set up in the historical town center or on the lakefront boulevard, take place once a week in most towns, including Salò, Desenzano , Sirmione, Riva del Garda and Limone sul Garda.

Besides the regular markets, some towns on Lake Garda also have flea markets where collectors can pick up antiques and interesting items.
