The first leg of the Garda Kayak Circuit for AIDO (Italian Association of Organ Donation) will set out on June 29, 2011 from Desenzano del Garda. The arrival in Desenzano is planned for July 3, 2011. The race will cover 78 miles by kayak in five days, traveling clockwise on the lake starting out from the Lega Navale of Desenzano and stopping for a night in the towns of Maderno, Riva del Garda, Torri del Benaco, and Peschiera. There will be an official meeting in each of these towns with local AIDO chapters and government officials to promote AIDO.
This five-day meet will allow the Italian Association of Organ and Cell Donation to promote its message of solidarity and to provide more information about organ donation in Italy through testimonials and experiences.
First leg: June 29 Departure at 9:00 a.m. from Desenzano del Garda. The route passes Padenghe, Moniga, Manerba, San Felice, San Biagio (Rabbit) and Garda Islands, Portese, Salò, and Gardone Riviera, and arrives in Toscolano-Maderno. Second leg: June 30 Departure at 8:30 a.m. from Toscolano Maderno. The 18-mile route passes Gargnano, Tignale, Tremosine, Limone sul Garda, and arrives in Riva del Garda (overnight stop and meeting with the Trento AIDO chapter, spending the evening with the organizers and the local population). Third leg: July 1 Departure from Riva del Garda. The route heads east to Nago Torbole, Malcesine, and arrives in Torri del Benaco. Fourth leg: July 2 Departure from Torri del Benaco, heading southeast. The route passes Garda, Bardolino, Lazise, and arrives in Peschiera del Garda. Fifth leg: July 3 Departure at 8:00 a.m. from Peschiera del Garda. The 10 mile route passes Sirmione.
