When the student surpasses the master. The eternal relationship between master and pupil has been frequently covered in the history of art and literature. Just think of the emblematic case of Giotto who learned everything possible from Cimabue and then outclassed him, which launched the legend of the student who surpasses his teacher. That legend, which can be found in myriad examples in the history of music, is the theme of the Tremosine Festival, which has reached its 10th edition.
The passage between master and student is an ideal way to celebrate the first decade and the beginning of the second of an event that began quietly and gradually became famous for its quality in just ten years. If, ten years ago, Festival audiences marveled at the astounding talent of Sergej Krylov, who was still unknown (today he is one of the world's most famous violinists), this year we want to create a similar surprise with a very young talent who has all the credentials to become tomorrow's Krylov.
His name is Stefano Mhanna. Just 15 years old, Stefano has the honor of inaugurating the Festival on July 23, playing beside an ideal maestro, Glauco Bertagnin, a well-known musician who is the First Violin of the Solisti Veneti. Sometimes the music teacher is also a father: that is the case of Zoran Milenkovic, who taught his 10-year-old son all the secrets of the violin. Also in that case, perhaps, the student has surpassed the master, as we will hear on August 7. The teacher-student relationship will also be very strong on August 15 when Marco Perini and Beppe Laffranchini will play together to commemorate Felice Luscia, after whom the Festival is named, who molded the talents of his two students at the Brescia Conservatory.
