The Giro del Trentino 2011 race, held from April 19 to 22, will start once again with a spectacular timed individual race along the Trentino banks of Lake Garda. The inaugural 13.4 kilometer timed race of the 35th edition of the Trentino stage race will start out from Riva del Garda, a splendid garden city of the Trentino province, and will arrive in Arco. The first athlete in the race will leave the platform on Piazza Cesare Battisti at 1:45 p.m., with the striking Rocca di Riva castle in the background.
The flat circuit is particularly suited to powerful athletes who race against the clock and reach high speeds. Despite the wind that always blows on the coast (the Ora Wind of Garda), the organizers (GS Alto Garda-Arco) expect high average times close to 50 km/h. Last year, the Kazakh Alexander Vinokourov won the Riva del Garda - Torbole sul Garda event with an extraordinary average time of 49.59 km/h. The Astana rider kept the leader's jersey right up to the last leg with the arrival at Alpe di Pampeago, ultimately winning the race.
